Whatchya’ Doin’ for Wassail Days?
Posted by: admin December 3rd, 2014
If you’re visiting the high country over the first few weeks of December, we’ve got just the thing for you to do while staying at our Frisco bed & breakfast … Wassail Days, December 5th through 14th in downtown Frisco.
Wassail, pronounced WAS’l (short A as in watch), literally means “be you healthy” in Old English terms. A hot mulled cider traditionally drunk as an integral part of wassailing – an ancient English drinking ritual intended to ensure a good cider apple harvest the following year – wassail takes on a new meaning in present-day Colorado. In Frisco, wassail is a hot, spiced cider served by local businesses to celebrate all things winter and the holidays.
During this 10-day affair, local businesses up and down Main Street will be serving up their own concoctions of wassail while guests can get their “12 Sips of Wassail Card” filled out by tasting 12 different types of wassail at 12 different locations. Once the card is completed, guest can return them in exchange for a commemorative Frisco Wassail Days mug … not to mention a belly full of cheer.
But, that’s not all to Wassail Days is it? Not at all. Frisco’s events throughout the week include some holiday fun with a dose of magic and wackiness. Some of the highlights of this year’s celebration include the “Ugly Sweater Challenge,” the “Soup Cup Classic,” and tree lighting featuring 500 luminaries up and down Frisco’s Main Street.
Frisco’s Holiday Tree Lighting
An event sure not to be missed, Frisco’s tree lighting ceremony will take place Friday, December 5th at 6pm at the Frisco Historic Park Museum. In addition to the tree lighting and carolers filling the town with cheer and holiday music, new this year 500 luminaries will line Main Street for an even cooler spectacle.
The Soup Cup Classic
Local restaurants and amateur cooks will battle for the titles of “Best Professional Soup” and “Best Amateur Soup” on Sunday, December 7th from 4-6pm at the Frisco Adventure Park’s Day Lodge. The best part about this event is that you get to be the judge as you sample all the wonderful soups and place your votes.
Ugly Sweater Challenge
On Sunday, December 13th at 4pm, the inaugural Ugly Sweater Challenge will be held on Main Street Frisco. Participants are invited to take on 5 holiday challenges from 7th Avenue to the finish at the Frisco Historic Park with only one caveat – you must be wearing your ugliest holiday sweater! The challenges will include traditional holiday tasks like target practice with fruitcakes and eggnog shooters.
Does this sound like enough holiday cheer for you and the family to take part in? We hope so. To make things even sweeter, all of these events take place right outside the front door of the Frisco Lodge. Step out of your comfy room into an immediate holiday celebration.
