Have you ever dreamed about slapping on a pair of waders and sauntering waist deep into the frigid waters of a Colorado lake or stream in hopes of wrangling that prized trout that you have heard so much about? Well, while staying at our Summit County bed and breakfast your dreams may just come true!
Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just curious about giving it a try, there really is no better place in Colorado to experience the thrill of fly fishing than in Summit County. On any given day, chances are good that you will find some avid fisherman staying at our Summit County bed and breakfast due to our central location in downtown Frisco. Staying at the Frisco Lodge sets you up perfectly for an abundance of opportunities within minutes from our front door.
The famed Blue River, a designated Gold Medal water by the Colorado Wildlife Commission, is a world-renowned river that is able to produce 60 pounds of trout per acre, and at least twelve 14” or larger trout per acre. Why is this so significant you may ask? Well, only 322 miles of Colorado’s 9,000 miles of trout streams carry the “Gold Medal” signature, and “The Blue” just so happens to be literally right outside our backdoor!
Other Summit County bed and breakfast establishments may have similar access to the endless amount of fishing opportunities the high country has to offer, but the Frisco Lodge’s central location makes it the perfect starting point for your next fishing adventure. One can hire a professional guide at one of the many angler companies in the area, or just try your luck out on your own. But, make sure to follow the posted regulations on types of bait allowed, size limitations and whether the spot is catch and release or not.
If you are looking for a great place to take the kiddos away from their Xbox, one of our favorite spots to introduce the youngsters to the basics of angling is the Meadow Creek Pond, behind Wal-Mart in Frisco just minutes from our Summit County bed and breakfast. The pond is well stocked with catchable fish, and there are even several fishing decks that make it easy for anyone to get access to the water.
There are other great spots in the vicinity of our Frisco bed and breakfast, including Rainbow Lake in Frisco and Cataract Lake at the north end of the county near Green Mountain Reservoir. Clinton Gulch Reservoir even harbors Cutthroat Trout – the only trout that’s truly a native of Colorado. And, of course, there is the Dillon Reservoir where you can find that special hidden cove or beach that will ultimately reward your patience and persistence.
Whatever type of fishing adventure you choose, just know that our Summit County bed and breakfast is situated in the middle of it all. The aforementioned is by no means and exhaustive list, but our innkeepers can provide you with all the local knowledge that you will ever need. You can also visit the Colorado Division of Wildlife website for all the information you will ever need and more!
Until then … fish on!
