Summer’s in Full Bloom With 21st Annual Colorado BBQ Challenge
Posted by: admin June 4th, 2014
While the calendar still says 19 days until the official first day of summer (Saturday, June 21st), it’s already starting to feel like summertime at our Frisco bed and breakfast. With temperatures already reaching the 70s and more sun than you know what to do with, now is the time to make your plans to head up to the high country!
With sunny “blue bird” days abound, and blossoming trees as far as than eye can see, one cannot beat the amazing natural beauty that surrounds us at the Frisco Lodge. Besides all of the obvious outdoor activities that one can sink their teeth into in Summit County, the Town of Frisco has decided to kick off summer early with its 21st annual Colorado BBQ Challenge.
Now, before I tell you about all of the activities that you surely do not want to miss, I feel obliged to let you know that our Summit County bed and breakfast provides you with a front row seat to all of the festivities as we are conveniently situated on Main Street, Frisco. Just step outside of our secluded courtyard and land face first (not literally, unless that’s your thing) in more BBQ than you know what to do with!
Encompassing over six blocks of Main Street and attracting over 30,000 people each year, this two-and-a-half-day mouth-watering event kicks off Thursday evening, June 12th with an evening of free live music from The London Souls. Kick off this year’s BBQ in style as Main Street turns from thoroughfare to party central right before your eyes.
The BBQ Challenge itself will run Friday, June 13th from 11:00am to 9:00pm and Saturday, June 14th from 10:00am to 6:00pm with approximately 70 BBQers competing for a variety of awards. Mix in chef demonstrations, pig races, a Whiskey Tour (advanced registration required) and a variety of daily musical entertainment, and you have yourself a party that only the high country can provide.
The Colorado BBQ Challenge is free to attend, but you will need to obtain “Hogback” tickets to purchase food, beverages, souvenirs and children activities. Don’t’ fret, however, as hogback tickets are on sale during the event at ticket booths located throughout Main Street.
If two days of BBQ ends up “enhancing” your waste line, why not take a walk down the street to the Frisco Bay Marina and participate in the Frisco Bay National Marina Day Celebration on Saturday, June 14th? There will be boating demonstrations and rentals designed to introduce the public to boating through on-water and landside activities.
Whatever your pleasure, summertime in the Rockies is sure to provide you with ample opportunities to get out and enjoy our little slice of paradise!
