Opening Day is Almost Here!

In most parts of the country, people are trying to come to terms with yet another winter rolling in and bringing with it snow, cold, and shorter days. Here in Summit County, we begin to anticipate the start of winter from the moment the last one ends. Finally, that most wonderful time of year is upon us. The 2016/2017 ski season in Summit County begins this month, and we couldn’t be more excited! Start planning your opening weekend getaways now, and remember, the Frisco Lodge offers exclusive central access to all of Summit County’s ski resorts, and all that Downtown Frisco has to offer.

Arapahoe Basin Ski ResortArapahoe Basin

Every year, Arapahoe Basin gears up to try and be the first ski resort to open in Summit County. This season, it looks like the local spot is poised to open either this Friday, October 14, or next Friday, October 21. Either way, it certainly looks like a Halloween adventure on the slopes is in the works! Last year, skiers and riders who attended A Basin’s opening day were treated to early morning bacon, Dunkin’ Donuts, and an all-around great time. If you’re a morning bird, head over super early to try and get first chair for unlimited bragging rights and more than likely a spot on local television. And of course, the earlier you arrive the less crowded your first few runs will be. Skiing at A Basin is always a party, especially on opening day. Enjoy a fun filled day of wacky costumes, drinks at 6th Alley Bar and all-day shredding on the first snow of the season.

Opening for the season on November 4, Keystone Resort is a great option for those who like a large amount of terrain, great park action and phenomenal views. Keystone Resort is known to kick off the start of their season with fun freebies and other perks. Not to mention, opening weekend at Keystone is busy with other events and activities as well, like the Get Stoked Winter Film Series at Warren Station. Hit the slopes all day before the first showing at 6:00 pm. What better to way to get pumped up for the season than an epic day of skiing and riding followed by a powder film screening right in Keystone’s Village?!

Nothing will get you as pumped up for the 2016/2017 ski season in Colorado like opening day at Breckenridge. Waiting in line to get your first chair of the season while the DJ starts spinning beats will get your blood flowing, and if not, the ride back down certainly will! Head up the Gondola on November 11 this year for opening day at Breckenridge, enjoy sweet giveaways as ski patrol tosses goodies into the crowd and shake off all the rust accumulated over the summer months. Come early to get a good spot in the lift line and to attend the ribbon cutting. As always, enjoy free hot cocoa and your first Epic Mix photo op of the year!

Not everyone is down with Vail Resorts, and that’s totally OK with us. If you enjoy a less crowded, more local experience, plan your first tracks at Copper Mountain this season. Opening day coincides with Breckenridge on November 11, making it all the more likely you’ll be able to beat the crowds and enjoy the snow. In addition to early season shredding, you can enjoy great gear giveaways, donuts, coffee & beer, and music spun by DJ Landry. After your first day back out on the snow, head down into Copper’s Center Village for après ski drinks and dinner to rest your legs and celebrate the start of this year’s season in Summit County.
