New Year’s Happenings in Summit County
Posted by: admin December 18th, 2014
Before you know it New Year’s Eve will be here and another year will be in the books. If you happen to be visiting Summit County – and perhaps staying at our Frisco bed & breakfast – during this festive time of year, you might want to plan your New Year’s Eve celebration in advance. Why? This is one of the most visited times of year in the high country and events book up fast. So, in that vein, here is an abbreviated list of some activities to “imbibe” in on New Year’s Eve.
Arapahoe Basin’s annual Moonlight Dinner Series highlights cuisine from mountain regions of the world. This year’s “New Year’s Eve in the Mountains” installment will ring in the New Year with a special dinner by Chef Christopher Rybak. Start the evening with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, followed by a Seafood Raw Bar featuring Shrimp and Crab Claw Cocktail, East and West Coast Oysters on the half shell, Ahi Tuna, and Hawaiian Kampachi on Crisp Wonton and Cucumber. A variety of hors d’oeuvres and soup/salad will follow, with an entrée buffet including Tenderloin of Beef with Boursin Whipped Potatoes, Butter Poached Lobster Tail, and Buttermilk Fried Quail Roasted Corn. A special New Year’s Eve Dessert Plate will cap it all off before the champagne toast and chocolate truffles at 10pm to celebrate New Year’s Eve with New York.
For more information please call 888-ARAPAHOE or confirm your registration online.
The town of Breckenridge and Breckenridge Ski Resort has partnered to make this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration one to remember. Starting at 5pm, the Blue River Plaza will be showing live coverage of New Year’s Eve from Times Square on a giant television donated by Breckenridge Ski Resort. Then, at 7pm, a live concert kicks off the mountain celebration before a fireworks display lights up the mountain between Peaks 8 and 9 at 9pm.
For the kiddos ages 5-13, the Glow Worm Parade includes skiing down green terrain in a long formation with glow sticks, giving off the appearance of a New Year’s glowworm. Registration begins at 5pm at the Beaver Run Ski and Ride School, and the parade will begin at 5:45pm.
The New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade, a long-standing Breckenridge tradition, will take place at 6pm with the Breckenridge Ski & Ride School carrying torches from the top of Peak 9, down American to The Village. Après drinks at the Maggie (located at The Village base area) or the Coppertop (located at Beaver Run) are great spots for grabbing a view of the skiers and riders illuminating the mountain.
Copper Mountain’s New Year’s celebration kicks off at 4:30pm with the USASA Rocky Mountain Series Rail Jam, where one local male and one female winner will earn a spot at the X Games Rail Jam. Then, at 6pm, the Kid’s Glow-Stick Pageant and Torchlight Parade will commence before another spectacular fireworks show kicks off at 10pm in Burning Stones Plaza.
Warren Station at Keystone is the place to be this year for New Year’s Eve, Keystone-style. Head for the Hills, a “quintessential Colorado band,” plans to fill the ballroom with their cutting edge strings and unique Indie-Bluegrass sound. Add a little hip-hop, funk, and a rocking crowd, and Keystone will be hoppin’! Free party favors while supplies last. Doors open at 8pm and music starts at 9pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the show. Purchase tickets here.
The great thing about these, and most any other, Summit County events is that they are FREE. Additionally, all are located within 15 minutes driving distance from our Frisco bed and breakfast, but for the adult-beverage minded, the Summit Stage Free Ride Transit System will be offering a special New Year’s Eve service in Breckenridge. All schedule routes will shut down as normal at 11:45pm, but starting at 12-Midnight, there will be a bus running up and down Main Street to pick up passengers at the Free Ride bus stops to take passengers to Breckenridge Station where they will be placed on a directional bus that will deliver them to any Free Ride bus stop within the Town of Breckenridge.
Have a very happy and safe New Year from your friends at the Frisco Lodge!
