A Happy Hour Ski Tour: New Belgium & Town of Frisco Combine for BrewSki
Posted by: admin January 12th, 2016
The Town of Frisco and New Belgium Brewing is combining two of Summit County’s favorite pastimes into one fun event with its inaugural 2016 Frisco BrewSki on Saturday, January 23rd. As you can probably guess from its name, the BrewSki combines skiing and beer into a happy hour ski tour event that welcomes all.
This family friendly event is for all ages and abilities to try their hand at tackling the scenic terrain in and around the Frisco Nordic Center and Frisco Peninsula, just a short walk from our Frisco hotel. From 2-4pm, the skiing portion will start at the Frisco Adventure Park Day Lodge and continue onto the groomed territory that encompasses the Nordic Center. It is important to note that this is not a race, but more of a chance to grab a group of friends and family, wear your favorite costume and enjoy a ski tour through the woods with intermittent stops for beverages and snacks. You can ski as much or as little as you would like from the suggested route, but there are no rules that say you have to stay on a designated course. However, you will probably want to stick to the itinerary to take advantage of the beer sample and snack stations.
Speaking of beer. New Belgium Brewing will be on hand to provide brews for participants 21 and over, and will be releasing its brand new Citradelic IPA for all to sample. If you don’t drink beer or have kids with you, don’t fret as non-alcoholic and child friendly options will be available at all beverage stops.
It is recommended that you use classic or skate skis for this event as the terrain varies from flat trails to some decent-size hills. However, you will not be asked to ski anything that you don’t feel comfortable with. If you need to rent skis, you can contact the Frisco Nordic Center at 970-668-0866.
While we already mentioned that this is not a race, there will be prizes awarded for best costume, toughest costume to ski in and some other surprises not yet mentioned. Each contestant will also receive a surprise commemorative item just for participating and each team will be entered into a door prize drawing for New Belgium Brewing goodies. All of this will happen at the after party to take place at the Frisco Adventure Day Park Lodge from 4-6pm.
There are very few “rules” for this event, but you do need to register as a team of 2-4 people (have a team name ready), pay the entrance fee ($15/adult & $10/youth 17 and under) and just have fun! Day-of-registration is also available at the Day Lodge starting at 1pm on January 23rd and costs $20/adult and $15/youth.
