Spring-Fever-BreckenridgeFor the Rocky Mountains’ standards this has not been an epic snow season as of yet. However, this typically means lots of spring snow on the way, and hence, lots of great skiing/riding at our Summit County ski resorts. But, there is something else in the air this spring just in case the snow Gods don’t comply … Spring Fever in Breckenridge!

Just a fifteen-minute drive from our Frisco hotel, both the Town of Breckenridge and Breckenridge Ski Resort transform from humble ski town into one of the largest parties in the state. Besides all of the spring breakers littered throughout town, this month-long festival (March 11 – April 19, 2015) takes over Breckenridge with concerts from popular bands, exciting competitions, merchant specials, parties, and some of those infamous Colorado blue bird days that you may have only read about.

Spring in Breckenridge is widely known for some of the best snow in the state, so what better way to send off the season than with the biggest spring party in the Rocky Mountains? Here is your complete guide on what to get into during Spring Fever in Breckenridge.

Each year, Spring Fever brings in some of the most popular musical acts in the country. Last year, Breckenridge saw the likes of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Gin Blossoms, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Blues Traveler on the FREE stage at the base of Peak 8. While the 2015 concert lineup has yet to be announced, expect a similar level of entertainment in 2015. Check out BreckSpringFever.com for updates and when the lineup will be announced.

On-Mountain Competitions

With some of the toughest on-mountain competitions in Colorado, the Spring Fever competition slate will be sure to please even the most passive observer. Included in this year’s lineup is the GoPro Big Mountain Challenge on Peak 6 (March 21), the Breck Ascent Series Final Race (April 15), the 4th Annual Mountain Dew Throwback Throwdown halfpipe competition (March 28), the EpicMix Scavenger Hunt (TBD), the Fever Battle Charity Hockey Game at the Breckenridge Ice Arena (TBD), and ‘The Imperial Challenge’ Bike/Ascent/Descent Race.

Widely considered one of the best terrain parks in the country, Spring Fever 2015 will include a cast of park and pipe skill competitions as well. On March 28, professional snowboarders will show off their tricks for a $17,000 prize purse by competing in a 22-foot halfpipe and a specially constructed 6-foot mini-pipe.

Additionally, every Friday during Spring Fever (April 3, 10 & 17), jam style contests will be held with the Spring Fever Park Jam.

Lastly, the brand new Epic Pro Team Big Air Showdown (date TBD) takes place as the Epic Pro Team athletes showcase their talents in the world-renowned Freeway Terrain Park in a Big Air jam session. Confirmed athletes for the showdown include Sochi 2014 Olympians Bobby Brown, Keri Herman, Faye Gulini, and Possum Torr.

Spring-Fever-Beer-FestivalSpring Fever Town Events

As I mentioned, on-mountain activities are not the only thing to sink your teeth into during Spring Fever. The Town of Breckenridge comes alive during this time of year as well. The 8th annual Breckenridge Spring Fever Beer Festival takes place on Ridge Street on April 11th with three live bands providing some entertainment as you sample brews from over 30 breweries.

Local merchants get in on the action as well with “Fever Reliever Main Street Merchant Discounts.” Simply ask merchants for the “Fever Reliever” discount at stores with the Spring Fever logo in their window. That’s it. Each store will have their own particular specials ranging from gifts with purchase to grab bags and discounts.

Parties

No Spring Fever would be complete without its set of parties to cure those winter blues. The Spring Fever Chili Cook-off might just be what you are looking for as Sevens Restaurant at the base of Peak 7 hosts this annual event. Some of the top chefs from Breckenridge Ski Resort face off in hopes of winning the award of “Best Chili.” Indulge in all the chili you would like and vote for your favorite recipe.

Closing day is typically a sad time for locals and visitors alike, but the Closing Day Luau might ease the disappointment a bit. Wear your classiest tropical shirt, sip on coconut drinks, and enjoy the Colorado blue bird sky while feasting on a roast pig. The date for this event is TBD, but assume it will be on, or close to, closing day – April 19, 2015.

Easter-Egg-HuntEaster

Since the Easter holiday coincides with Spring Fever, we would be amiss if we didn’t mention the Easter Weekend festivities. All taking place on Sunday, April 5th, the town offers up a Town-Wide Easter Egg Hunt starting at Blue River Plaza, plus a Sunrise On-Mountain Easter Service at Ten Mile Station on Peak 9, and an On-Mountain Easter Egg Hunt on Peaks 8 and 9.

So, as you can see, there is no dearth of activities to take part in this spring in Breckenridge. Start saving your sick days now, book your spot at our Frisco hotel, and experience springtime in the Rockies like never before!
