6 Bucket List Items to Cross off Before the End of Ski Season

Posted by: admin February 23rd, 2016

With roughly a month and a half of the ski season remaining at our Summit County resorts (A-Basin excluded), the countdown to the end of ski season has officially begun. This is typically the time of year when we tend to reflect on what we want to accomplish before the season ends … akin to a ski season bucket list. While you may no longer be able to mark 100+ ski days off your list this season, there’s still plenty of time to tackle some of those other more attainable items. Here are some of our favorites.

Get in (At Least) One More Powder Day

One-Last-Powder-DaySpring skiing in Colorado is known for its infamous blue bird days, but did you know that the month of March is typically one of the snowiest months of the year? While we may have a ton of warm, sunny days, we can be guaranteed a bunch of new snow as well. If you time it right, you will cross “one last powder day” of your list. Check out the snow cams from the various resorts and sign up for their weather alerts to be the first to know when it’s snowing in Summit County.

Grab That First Chair

First-chair-corduroyDefinitely something that should be on your season bucket list, grabbing that first chair can give you a certain amount of satisfaction. Powder days are not the only reason to wake up early as first chair affords you the unique sensation of ripping through that fresh corduroy you’ve always wanted to “mess up.” There is something to be said about laying down tracks on fresh corduroy, especially if you can admire your work on your next lift up.

Watch the Sun Set at Keystone

Sunset-KeystoneKeystone is the only Summit County resort that offers you the chance to night ski. And, as the days start to get longer later in the season, night skiing becomes less about extending your day to get in a few more runs and turns into a great way to enjoy the sunshine for a bit longer and watch the sun set behind the magnificent Rocky Mountains.

Add to Your Skillset for Next Season

The season is winding down and I’m sure there are some things that you promised you would get better at before season’s end. Now is the time to do it and jump to the next level with a lesson from your chosen resort’s ski & ride school. Whether you want to perfect that plaguing weakness, tackle the trees or master the bumps, set yourself up nicely for next season with some new found skills.

Experience Springtime Fun in the Mountains

slushcup-Keystone-ColoradoNo matter what Summit County resort you decide to visit, be sure that there is the chance to join in on some fun springtime events. Keystone offers the Red Bull Schlittentag and the Slush Cup, Breckenridge is alive with a slew of Spring Fever events and concerts, and Copper Mountain closes its season with Sunsation. Since Araphoe Basin typically extends is season until June or later, look for the Spring Concert Series every Saturday from April 30th until closing.

Make It a Group or Family Outing

The Spring season is a great time to get your friends and family out and make it a vacation. The warmer weather allows for more comfortable conditions for the casual skiers and therefore makes for a better après ski experience. So, bit the bullet, round up a group and make it a ski trip!
